End Product

So here's the book cover and the coloured product as promised. Suzanne did all the colouring and book cover while Hadinah provided the ribbon and drew the pictures.

Group Discussion 4

We've plenty of stuff and the book is almost ready. This discussion Hadinah and Clement had to reedit the blog posts & Suzanne, Glenn and Sharham discussed about the upcoming presentation and did the slides.

A lot of note taking we did.

So, since the main project, we did a picture book. The reason we chose to do so is because it gives visual attention for the readers so that they do not get bored reading a book that only has words.

We had finished doing the pictures and so, during this discussion, we did the illustrations. We used half an A4 colour paper to write down the story.

So this is the story line. Its not coloured but buy the next post, it will be coloured plus it would have already developed into a proper storybook. Suzanne is doing the front cover, back cover of the book and the colouring.

Progress Report - Hadinah ♡ (2)

Chapter 2 : Choosing of names. --> The new law was being used. Koreans had to take the names of Japanese. They took turns pointing out the letter for their names. I drew the family all together because they picked their Japanese name together in the story.

Chapter 7 : Hiding of the Sharon tree.
--> Tae - Yul, Sun - Hee & Omoni working together to save their Sharon tree. Even with the risk of Omoni getting caught by the Japanese, Sun - Hee was proud of her. I drew it this way because i wanted to relay the message that even though their Sharon trees were burnt, they were able to save one tree.

Chapter 10 : Tae - Yul seeing airplanes.
--> Tae - Yul being so interested with airplanes and was lucky to get to see one on his way home. I drew the plane and Tae - Yul like so because it is his first time seeing a plane and he is amazed by the airplane's structure and speed.

Chapter 11 : Mrs Ahn getting punished for speaking Korean.
--> During the accounting, Mrs Ahn didn't know the number 6 in Japanese and made the mistake of saying it in Korean and that's why she got beaten by the Japanese soldier. I drew Mrs. Ahn like so because she was getting beaten, the Japanese with an angry expression. Omoni tried to prevent Sun - Hee from looking because she doesn't want Sun - Hee to run across to help Mrs. Ahn or else she would get beaten as well.

Chapter 12 : Tae - Yul's bicycle gets taken away.
--> Tae - Yul getting upset because Abuji didn't even try to help to prevent the Japanese soldiers from taking his bicycle. I drew Tae - Yul upset because he was angry and sad that the Japanese took things from them without giving anything back in return and Abuji, even though the soldiers respected him, he didn't help to get Tae - Yul bicycle back. All he said was 'Sorry'.

Chapter 15 : False alarm from Sun - Hee to Uncle.
 --> I made Sun - Hee look like so because she felt guilty that she told her Uncle a warning about the Japanese looking for him although it was untrue. A false alarm and that the Japanese was going to take metal. Omoni looks worried about Sun - Hee and she tries to comfort her.

Chapter 21 : Tae - Yul enlisted into the Imperial army.
--> Tae - Yul volunteered himself to the Imperial Army. Causing Abuji to get angry because he disobeyed him thus I didn't give him any expression other than his frowning face. Omoni broke down into a waterfall of tears and Sun - Hee was speechless, thus the face shows.

Chapter 27 : Tae -Yul becomes a Kamikaze.
--> A second letter from Tae -Yul to the family. They were glad that he was still in training but Sun -Hee read between the lines and found out the dreadful truth of him being the kamikaze. Thus Sun - Hee looks shocked, worried about her older brother's life. Tae - Yul looks upset that he would be leaving his family in a suicide mission.

Chapter 29 : Tae - Yul's letter.
--> A letter from the Imperial Army arrived along with a sword wrapped in cloth, a sign that Tae - Yul has flown to his mission. But soon after that the war ended, Tae - Yul died two months before it ended. Sun - Hee didn't know how to feel to the fact that Tae -Yul was just a memory. In the story, Sun - Hee sat in the middle of the road, unsure of her own emotions that Mrs. Ahn had to bring her home. I drew Tae - Yul with the lines to show that it was a past memory for Sun - Hee.

Chapter 30 : Tae - Yul returns home.
--> Tae - Yul returns home, safe and sound. I drew the siblings hugging each other because they were very very happy. Even though they fought a lot, the bond that they have cannot be broke. Omoni and Abuji themselves were happy for Tae - Yul's return so i just drew them in the picture to show the happy famiy.

Drawings are complete. What we need to do now is compile all of it and turn it into a book plus the presentation equals to a lot of stuff to do. But I've done my part now the rest has to do theirs.

Pogress Report - Hadinah ♡

Hadinah here reporting my progress report on my part as the artist! The pages of the book are still in progress.


So far what I've completed is the planning of the character profile.

Sun - Hee is my favourite.  Why Sun - Hee looks like that is because I wanted to
show the readers how Sun -Hee usually reacts to the different situations in the story because she
usually appears on many chapters. I also wanted to show the innocent younger sister look.

Tae - Yul was really hard to draw. Why I made him look like so is because I wanted to show the readers
that not only that he is the a caring older brother towards Sun -Hee but also joined the
Imperial army for the sake of his family.

Omoni looks different from what the book described but, still a motherly figure. Why I gave her this looks is
because on many chapters of the book she always showed her soft side and cried a lot. But there
were some times that Omoni put on a straight face.

I gave Abuji this look  because he is the vice - principal of the elementary school. Abuji usually
takes a calm attitude towards any situation in the story. But sometimes when things get  really rough,
he tends to lose his temper for a moment but will collect himself.

The fun, carefree Uncle. I drew him like that because he is usually making jokes and smiling all the time towards
the family. Thus, I drew him smiling a lot. But when the Japanese made new laws now and then,
his smile would slowly fade.

Sorry its not coloured. Didn't want to take up too much time just planning the character profile. I'm satisfied with how they turned out. I don't know about the others though. Guess they just have to deal with it.


I also did the planning of how the overall outlook of the pop-up book would look like.

Group Discussion 3

And so the group discussion continues yet again. The progress is really slow. Slower than we thought it would be. But we will make it up by doing 'after school'  sessions.
We did okay I guess. Big improvement.

So, today was a much more stressful day for us. Some of us got distracted a number of times. Guess we were really restless being it Monday.

The group members were able to finish all their summaries on each chapter and Hadinah was able to sketch down her ideas in her notebook and when at home she can start drawing the real things.

We decided to do stuff separately first and when we are able to get together again, we are able to compile them all together.

We planned on which parts in the Chapters we should concentrate on and the pop-up characters in the story.

--> Hadinah will do the pop-up sketches. She being the artist.

--> Suzanne has started doing the cardboard cover for the book. She will decorate it with recycled newspapers and make the headings with colour paper. 

--> Glenn will do the strip of papers that are needed to make the pop-up effect.

--> Sharham & Clement will have to help the group organize the stuff that we have already completed.


This is what we planned during the discussion. Hopefully we would be free to discuss outside of class to speed up the process of this group project and start doing the pop-up book before the next literature class.
A bit stressful since we have other projects too but we'll try. :)




Another STATUS REPORT :

Not a lot of things planned this week compared to last week but the lesser the better. We can get out separate jobs done completely then it'll make things easier. Somehow O.o


Thing are done separately in this group so when we meet up again it would be easier since we always get distracted when in a group.


SOLUTION 1 :
Since each group members has already gotten the USERNAME and PASSWORD for the blog, they will separately update their progress on their individual works. The Blog Administrator and whoever is helping him or her would then sort out all the entries into one single blog post on our progress.


SOLUTION 2 :
Each group member takes their on pictures of their progress on each of their part. The Blog Administrator will then take all the pictures from them and make a blog post.

Group Discussion 2

And we're back again!

So during this week's discussion we had to do out Status Report. Where we had to discuss about our Jobs Planned, Jobs Completed, Jobs Yet To Be Done & Things To Bring on 26 March when our next discussion will take place in class.

Might we tell you that any discussion outside of class will still be updated.. ^^

So, our STATUS REPORT :

THINGS TO BRING ON 26 MARCH :
- Total summary on each Chapter from every group members.

During the group discussion we had a little bit of time to spare so we used it to plan the pages we needed for the book in total so it wouldn't be to thick and to distribute the chapters for each member to summarize.

That was all we were able to complete the following week on Monday there will be another class discussion then after that on Wednesday we will have our own planned meeting. 'Till then, if there is anything new we will keep on updating.

Group Discussion 1

During the discussion we had to discuss a few important matters first. We had to decide on roles, decide on the task we plan on doing like for example, scrap book, story book etc. Then we had to decide on the 12 events we want to concentrate on throughout the whole project.

We had decided on the following things :

REASONS : 

Suzanne - They are very interesting. Keeps you glued to the book. The suspense makes it harder to tear your eyes away from the pages

Hadinah - The events are important throughout the whole story. Without these events the story would be incomplete.

Glenn - They portray important events and situations that contribute deeply yo the story and the characters.
Clement - They show values that can be learnt by the readers.
Sharham - They show atrocities the Japanese did to the Koreans.


That is mostly all the things were able to discuss about with the time given by Miss Jumiah.
